I’m so happy to share with you this amazing style collaboration I worked on with a mega team of Canadian creatives. I’ve always wanted to style Canadian Choreographer Caroline Torti in edgy, colorful clothes since she’s always in dark colors. And by dark colors I mean black. Any time I’m around people who choose black as their go to, it’s a goal of mine to get them in the brightest colors and boldest patterns I can find. So when I was headed up to Canada for the holidays, I assembled a kick ass team of Canadian creatives for a style collaboration to get Caroline into color and capture the chicness in an epic photo shoot.
Lucky for me looking for bright colors and bold patterns was easy, as Toronto based Hayley Elsaesser and Untitled and Co. had exactly what I was looking for. It was a dream come true to work with these immensely talented entrepreneurs and I was so proud to collaborate with two fierce, Canadian fashion brands. Both shops had amazing teams of people working to help me create the looks I had in mind for Caroline.
With the lineup of looks ready to go, I asked makeup artist and Caroline’s bestie Alison Henthron to give Caroline a bold, over done cat eye and a natural high light (Please take your time obsessing over the highlight. It’s called Whisper of Guilt by MAC). Needless to say Alison nailed the look and I wish she could do my makeup every day. With clothes and makeup ready to go, finding a photographer was easy.
Full disclosure, Fabio Buritica is my brother. Nepotism aside, he’s an immensely talented photographer with a very special eye for photography. Since this would be a sister / brother collab, Fabio and I put our heads together to lay out the flow of the shoot. We decided on how each look would be photographed and what lighting to use. Not cause he’s my brother, but I really appreciated a professional photographer willing to sit down and walk through the entire theme of the shoot together. This way we were all going to be on the same page and flow and timing would run smoothly on set.
Speaking of lighting, Fabio brought lighting specialist and all around cool dude Ricky Fu to bring his best lighting game to set. It’s not often I shoot inside but the right lighting can make or break your entire shoot. In our case, lighting was key to the entire vibe of my styling vision.
This was such a special style collaboration, as we as a team, were able to bring this shoot to life and show the masses just how Canadians do it. Did I mention I’m Canadian as well?
