Thanks to the many style connoisseurs and fashion lovers I follow on Twitter such as @naveastyle, I was able to get my first glimpse of Paris Fashion week Spring /Summer 2013. After staring at the master pieces created by Valentino, Alexandre Vauthier , Zuhair Murad and of course CHANEL, I tried to deny the fact that I was staring at A LOT of monochromatic designs. Not that monochromatic is a bad thing. It’s a classic look that will never go out of style i.e. my ultimate fashion icon Jacqueline Onassis, who I think was the queen of well worn, monochromatic outfits.

Monochromatic has been the BUZZ word for some time and will continue on through spring/summer 2013. The style brings a clean, simple, chic look to women of all shapes and sizes with a touch of timeless class. But what does that mean to the average shopper? Do we go and buy our spring/ summer wardrobe all in black and white and say bye-bye to color for this year? I have always been a firm believer in having monochromatic staple pieces in your wardrobe. A great pair of black dress pants (I have this great pair from H&M), black, white, royal blue button down shirts and a classic black pencil skirt (maybe a daring cobalt blue pencil skirt?). All these pieces I believe are a must, as they can be interchangeable and last many seasons. But I have been very hesitant to go all out monochromatic for this year.

I diagnosed myself as a visual learner which means I love bold colors and patterns. The sun shining and a faint warm breeze is enough for me to go grab some bright colors and mix and match an outfit that is a direct response to the great weather. (And by the great weather I mean, the one I imagine as I hold a flash light in one hand and blow-dryer in the other to replicate the feeling of sunshine and a warm beach breeze).
As I start my shopping, I see all these great colors and patterns coming out this season that I am super excited to wear. Piece by piece, I hit the shops with my loving and super patient hubby who surprised me this weekend as he picked out one great mint colored dress and dare I admit this to the blogo’sphere, black and white printed pants. I thought he was joking at first but alas, he was dead serious. I decided to humor him and put on these pants that I thought were ok for a preppy kinda girl and someone “smaller” than me. To my shock and amazement not only did they fit, (insert YAAHOOO here) but the B&W pattern and cut were actually very well done. We both looked at each other and he said “guess you won’t be anti-monochromatic now huh?” I guess not.
Live in Color!
The pants are just that, a simple pair of patterned pants but they have opened up my fashion horizon and helped me break my own CCZ (Clothing comfort zone). It’s a small step into a different look for me and yet a huge breakthrough for how I project myself to the outside world. All while successfully not breaking the bank @ $44 at Francesca’s Collection. This clothing piece has opened my eyes to the great looking monochromatic peplum tops, lace adorned garden party dresses and the color blocked shoes that I will partake in this year, SORT OF. I still have to insert my bright peaches, cool mints and fresh pinks into my wardrobe as my inner 80’s Rainbow Brite child won’t have it any other way.
