I’m so happy I asked this incredible woman to be part of the “What Style Means To Me” series. I reached out to Madeline Pena and asked her if she would be interested in sharing her thoughts on what style means to her as a Latina woman. At the time I emailed her I hadn’t met her yet. Then, a few days later we finally met at a blogger event and it was like we had known each other for years. Madeline has an electric personality that makes you feel instantly comfortable to be around her. I’m really glad to have met Madeline and even more excited that she is part of this empowering series. Thank you Madeline you rock girl!
This question is one that I think about often. What does style mean to me as a Latina woman? Well, it means many things. But for me it’s about breaking the stereotype. Am I Latina? Yes. Do I have curves? Yes. Does that mean that I have to dress sexy all day, every day? No. I feel that Latina women are expected to be sexy in everything they do. I don’t like that kind of expectation. No, I won’t wear heels every day. And No, I won’t be showing you my cleavage either. I think that as a Latina woman, it is time to break the stereotype. I can wear jeans, a t-shirt, and flats and STILL rock it!
For this post, I’m showing a few of my favorite looks. From white-tees to bomber jackets, and short-shorts my style is simple — it’s me!
I love pairing a white tee with anything. It’s clean, simple, chic, and sophisticated. I wear a white tee when I go out on first dates because it looks great but doesn’t look like you tried so hard. 😉
This look is for a night out like dinner and a movie at city center. Again, it is simple but it has some edge to it. I love the colors in the jacket and the hair bun gives it an “I just threw this together” kind of vibe.
This is my “I’m showing out today” look. Here is my tip if you want to be sexy and sophisticated…stick to showing off only one asset. In this picture, it’s all about the LEGS!
What makes Latina women so sexy is our confidence and no-nonsense attitude. We have such a passion towards life and we embrace our culture. We don’t need bodycon dresses to show that off! With that said, I encourage all women (Latina or not) to wear what makes you shine. Break the stereotype and be comfortable with whatever you put on.
