Make Up Time!

Happy New Year everyone! New year, brand new posts coming your way.

First up, it’s MAKE UP TIME with make up artist Rhonda from Mac Cosmetics!

While I was in Toronto celebrating the holidays, I got together with Rhonda so I could get my make up done for a holiday party I was going to.

I was really excited to get  all dolled up, have a little make up time and listen closely to any tips and tricks Rhonda had on how to get my finished look.

*I’d like to put a disclaimer that it was very cold in Toronto and my skin did not appreciate it at all. So A LOT of primer and moisturizer was used..lol*

Rhonda’s Five Tips For Makeup Application

One – Hydrate your skin

MU5

The first rule to makeup is to make sure your skin is in tip-top condition. Whether your skin is dry, combination or oily, all skin types should be well hydrated with a moisturizer that caters to your skin type.

Two – Prime Prime Prime!

MU15

Prior to any application, prime! Whether, its an eye primer, face primer or lip primer, these products really do help your makeup’s staying power by allowing makeup products to say on better and longer.

Three – Blush

There’s nothing like a little bit of blush on the apples of your cheeks to brighten up your face, especially when you are on the go and don’t have much time to apply your makeup. Blush is in fact best used when applied to the apples of your cheeks; bronzer, not blush, should be used for contouring, to create a sculpted cheekbone look.

Four – Contouring – try using a highlighter

MU18

Try accentuating your bone structure by highlighting the areas of the face you want to bring forward, rather than contouring. Proper contouring creates depth on areas such as below the cheekbone and around the temple area, which in turn creates shadows (especially in photography) and yes, it looks beautiful. However, you can achieve a similar look in less time by highlighting. For example, to bring out your nose, add a little shimmer along the bridge of the nose. This in turn will automatically create contouring because the sides of the nose are darker.

Five – Beautiful Eyes

If you want to bring out your eyes, here’s an easy trick: apply mascara on both the top and bottom lashes. Add a little highlighter to the inside corners of the eye. This combo can really open and brighten eyes.

Don’t forget my favorite tip of all, there are no rules to makeup!

Don’t be afraid to try new things. Often times, we get stuck in a rut and end up doing the same makeup applications over and over. Makeup is fun and forgiving so don’t be afraid to try something new. If you have been applying the same makeup look for years, don’t be afraid to change it up. A change may seem shocking in the mirror at first but give it time, try something different and wear it out for the day.

Lots of love,

Rhonda.
